Too much of a good thing…..

Published by changingphases at 2:51 pm under Avoiding Debt Edit This

It’s all good to shop bargains, but beware of the 2 for $5.00 deals that you will see on many shelves up until the Christmas holiday. Too many small deals can lead to you spending big bucks and not even recognizing it. A few ways that you can avoid big spending on these eye catching deals it to a) make a list of the people you are shopping for; b) take stock of your shopping cart; c) use cash or debit only.  If you make a list of who you are shopping for you will  cause yourself to really be cautious of the money you are spending. Many people on your list should only get a Christmas card to show that you appreciate them. It may sound funny but I only buy gifts for people who are actively involved in my life over 1 year. Set a limit on yourself and the number of friends you allow in to your gift purchasing circle and remember that Christmas cards go a long way in showing appreciation. Second, take stock of your shopping cart. There is absolutely nothing wrong with stopping in the middle of the store and counting items to save a few bucks. Do you really need two MP3 players for your 12 year old nephews? No, they will probably break them anyway. Plus, two regular priced CD Players will suffice and they will be just as appreciative. If you are worried about being the favorite aunt or uncle go to local bank and set them up a trust fund. When they are 18, and it really counts, they will appreciate you more. Lastly, use cash or debit. Yeah, after you count out $100 dollars in cash a few times, you’ll stop! You will begin to ask yourself questions about who exactly is on your list and worth all of this money. Once more, you will take stock of your shopping cart. Most banks have a limit of the money that you can use debit for in a day. For instance Washington Mutual limits you to $500 a day using your debit card, not to mention, after you have punched in that debit number a few times you will take stock on your cart and that list you should have made earlier. Lets recap-make a list, take stock of your shopping cart, and use cash or debit only! These deals that retailers are offering may seem good but as always too much of a good thing can lead you to financial disaster.
